Seg\u00fan un reciente estudio chileno, absolutamente todo. Hasta hoy, la presencia de unos mantos blanquecinos (formados por bacterias) en el fondo marino bajo los centros de cultivo de salm\u00f3n se consideraba autom\u00e1ticamente una se\u00f1al de impacto negativo, obligando a costosos procesos de mitigaci\u00f3n e incluso el cierre temporal de operaciones. Una nueva investigaci\u00f3n desarrollada por cient\u00edficos chilenos revela que esta interpretaci\u00f3n podr\u00eda ser replanteada, inclinando el actual proceso regulatorio a un lineamento basado en ciencia y con est\u00e1ndares internacionales.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El estudio demuestra que estos mantos blancos, formados por bacterias o GSOB (gigantes bacterias oxidantes de azufre), no son necesariamente indicadores de problemas ambientales, sino que forman parte natural del ecosistema marino y pueden tener distintos significados seg\u00fan su contexto o presencia gradual en los fondos rocosos. Esta revelaci\u00f3n abre la puerta a un sistema de evaluaci\u00f3n ambiental m\u00e1s preciso, menos costoso y realmente enfocado en la protecci\u00f3n efectiva del medio ambiente.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Esta investigaci\u00f3n, liderada por el Dr. Carlos Aranda de la Universidad de Los Lagos y publicada en la prestigiosa revista <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1016\/j.marpolbul.2025.118694\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Marine Pollution Bulletin<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, evalu\u00f3 los cambios bacterianos en fondos rocosos, con especial atenci\u00f3n en estas coberturas bacterianas y su potencial como indicadores visuales en la evaluaci\u00f3n ambiental del sector.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00abHasta ahora, la regulaci\u00f3n simplemente considera que, si hay bacterias blancas, hay problemas. Lo que hemos descubierto es que la realidad es mucho m\u00e1s compleja. Estas bacterias se relacionan de forma sofisticada con todo el ecosistema marino, y su simple presencia no indica necesariamente un impacto negativo\u00bb, explica el Dr. Carlos Aranda, investigador de la Universidad de Los Lagos y autor principal del art\u00edculo cient\u00edfico.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><strong>Enfoque integral<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">El trabajo plantea que los actuales criterios binarios (presencia\/ausencia) utilizados para clasificar el impacto ambiental deber\u00edan evolucionar hacia un enfoque m\u00e1s integral, que incorpore m\u00faltiples factores como: i) El porcentaje de cobertura de estas bacterias, ii) Las comunidades de otros organismos presentes, y iii) Diversos par\u00e1metros fisicoqu\u00edmicos del agua y sedimentos.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Felipe Tucca, coordinador de investigaci\u00f3n de INTESAL, se\u00f1ala que \u00abdesde el Plan de Ciencia de INTESAL buscamos comprender mejor los fondos marinos. Con nuevas metodolog\u00edas, y el uso de bioindicadores como bacterias visibles oxidantes de azufre, replanteamos la evaluaci\u00f3n de los mantos blanquecinos hacia una gesti\u00f3n ambiental m\u00e1s ecol\u00f3gica y basada en ciencia\u00bb.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Este avance representa un cambio de paradigma en la forma de evaluar la interacci\u00f3n entre la salmonicultura y los ecosistemas marinos.
